Effective since 6/10/19
Base rate $80 / hr
Applies to lessons and consultations (phone, email, or in person) that are paid after, during, or less than 24 hours before the appointment. After three hours of unpaid lessons, I will suspend services. Sorry!
Reward rate $70 / hr
Applies to lessons and consultations when:
- It’s your very first lesson, or
- I have your credit card information and authorization on file (preferred for the most streamlined billing), or
- You prepay more than 24 hours in advance (which you can do during the booking process).
When you book a lesson, the calendar will ask you if you want to pay immediately. If you do so, you will be billed at the reward rate of $70 / hr. As long as all your lessons are prepaid, you and I will rarely need to communicate about billing.
The other way to earn my reward rate is to vault your credit card with me. This process securely encrypts your billing information in Square. I’ll be able to charge your card whenever you have a balance due, but I won’t know your CC number and it will be inaccessible to hackers. When your card is vaulted, you still have the option of paying at will. In case you forget, though, I will take care of it for you without penalty! Some clients just let me handle all the billing weekly. I’ll send you a statement whenever I charge your card. Vaulting your credit card requires two forms and takes a $5 test deposit. I delete the “Information” form from my system after the card is vaulted.
Every 12th hour free
I issue voucher cards that I will sign off at each lesson. When you reach the 12th hour, it will be free! This is effectively an 8% “thank you” discount for my long-term students. You are responsible for presenting your voucher or counting the hours!
Subject to my availability, you may book times that are not on my appointment calendar for a 50% surcharge over your regular hourly rate. Please contact me directly to ask about availability.
GRE structured course
The GRE courses were priced at six weeks (18 hours) based on the assumption that at least three people would enroll. If a session is under-enrolled with only one or two students, class will be shortened. However, the hourly rates still work out better than one-on-one lessons. Furthermore, structured course tuition includes materials such as the ETS book, Nth Degree video lectures, and online flash cards. One-on-one students must pay separately for such supplements.
For a 1-person GRE-1 course, the $600 deposit covers three weeks, with the option of finishing weeks 4 – 6 for an additional $600. This amounts to a 10% hourly discount off one-on-one lessons.
For a 2-person GRE-1 course, the $600 deposit covers four weeks, with the option of finishing weeks 5 – 6 for an additional $300. This amounts to a 30% hourly discount off one-on-one lessons.
For a 1-person GRE-2 course, the $500 deposit covers three weeks, with the option of finishing weeks 4 – 6 for an additional $500. This amounts to a 10% hourly discount off one-on-one lessons.
For a 2-person GRE-2 course, the $500 deposit covers four weeks, with the option of finishing weeks 5 – 6 for an additional $250. This amounts to a 30% hourly discount off one-on-one lessons.
As long as three or more people enroll, the deposit covers all six weeks.
House calls within the three-mile radius are 90-minute lessons billed as two hours. (Book two consecutive hours).
House calls between the three- and five-mile radii are two-hour lessons billed as three hours (book three consecutive hours, but it is rare to find such an opening).
Outside the 5-mile radius, I am only available by Skype or other remote connections.
Access to video lessons / flash cards
The video lessons publicly accessible on my YouTube channel are all free. (See button at upper right of this website). There are also some secret proprietary videos, and I’ll email you the link for $4 per hour of content.
I have some sets of flash cards available in hardcopy or on Quizlet. Please inquire.
Sharing live lessons is a great way to reduce your costs. With n adult students, the formula for each student’s share of the lesson is (n + 1) / 2n times the
single-student fee. This is summarized in the following table. The maximum group size for high-school students is 2.
|# of students||Discount|
If you refer a student who books at least two hours with me, I’ll be glad to offer you a referral fee equivalent to the value of that student’s first hour (cash or credit to you).
Hungry Bachelor Discount
Will tutor for food! $10 discount for a full home-cooked meal or $5 for a snack.
